Obituary for Mrs. Berthella Spencer-Jackson
Sunrise: February 23, 1945 – Sunset: November 19, 2025
Mrs. Berthella Spencer-Jackson, age 80, departed this life on November 19, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on February 23, 1945, in Taylor, Texas, to Rosetta Colvin and Milton Roberson, Berthella grew up in the rural heart of Central Texas—a place that shaped her strong spirit, her deep faith, and her abiding love for family.
At an early age, Berthella gave her life to Christ and was baptized at Pleasant Bethany Baptist Church in Elgin, Texas. Her faith remained the foundation of her life, guiding every step she took and every soul she touched.
Berthella was preceded in death by her parents and beloved husbands, L.S. Spencer and Lloyd Jackson. She is also preceded by her brother Milton “Bobby” Roberson (Vernell), half siblings Oliver and cherished family members Melton Roberson (Zola), along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins who welcomed her home to glory.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her devoted sister Rose Mary Jones (James); her loving siblings Oliver Dean Roberson and Lisa Roberson (Elliott); her special sister Dorothy McCarther; her daughter Cherie Dudley (Tony); her special niece Talisa Lee (Robert); her granddaughter Olivia Dudley; her grandson Tony Dudley Jr.; her great-grandson Kevon Walton; and her special friends Doris “Pee Wee” McCloud and Jewel Henry. She also leaves behind many extended family members, church family, and friends who were blessed by her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love.
Berthella lived a life rooted in kindness. She loved her family unconditionally and never hesitated to give the shirt off her back—though she would follow it with one of her famously long, heartfelt lectures full of life lessons. Those who knew her will remember her charitable spirit, her infectious humor, and the way she seemed to always know exactly what someone needed—whether it was a hot meal, a comforting word, or a gentle nudge in the right direction.
A true country woman at heart, Berthella had a green thumb like no other. She could bring any plant back to life, and she cultivated gardens filled with beauty and purpose. Her favorite flowers were sunflowers, which stood tall and bright—just like her. She also carried a healing spirit, often nursing loved ones back to health with a patience and tenderness that could only come from God-given grace.
Berthella Spencer-Jackson’s legacy is one of faith, resilience, nurturing, and boundless love. Though her earthly journey has ended, the seeds she planted—in gardens, in hearts, and in generations—will continue to grow.
