January 26, 1954 – October 4, 2025
Debra Dean “Dee Dee” Barton, age 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2025.
Born on January 26, 1954, Dee Dee lived a life full of love, dedication, and service. She retired in 2010 from The University of Texas to care for her beloved mother—a true testament to her selfless and compassionate nature.
Dee Dee also served for many years as a Head Judge for the International Barbeque Cookers Association (IBCA), where she formed countless friendships and created lasting memories in a community she deeply cherished.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert “Bob” Barton; daughters Stacey Gruetzner (Jason) and Roxanne Miller; stepdaughters Amanda Barton and Leslie Barton; brother Mark Lewis; and loving aunt Sandra (James) Noe, and grandchildren Tyler & Ian Jasek, Morgan (Payton) Simank, Zane Conder, Kaytlyn Polivka, Emily Barton, Tenley Witt, and Mason Rinehart, and her great-granddaughter Skylar Simank.
Dee Dee was preceded in death by her parents, Phil and Bess Lewis; her brother, Randy Lewis; and her stepdaughter, Stacy Barton.
Her warmth, humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She wasn’t perfect, but she was part of our story. Her presence shaped who we are, and for that, we’re grateful.
Private Graveside Services will be held at the Oakhill Cemetery in Smithville.
“I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now as tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say not in a shy way
Oh no, oh no, not me I did it my way” – Frank Sinatra
