Emmit “Bob” Webb, age 98, of Elgin, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
Bob was born on June 5, 1927, in Roscoe to Emmit and Esther Webb. During his childhood, his family lived in several Texas towns before settling in Austin, where he graduated from Austin High School in 1945.
Immediately after graduation, Bob traveled to Houston and joined the Merchant Marines, proudly serving his country during World War II. His service carried him across the world, allowing him to visit many countries. One of his favorite memories was being in Times Square on VJ Day — a story he loved sharing throughout his life. Bob was deeply proud to be an American and treasured the experiences and friendships from those years.
On April 2, 1949, Bob married the love of his life, Clara, in Austin, Texas. Together they built a beautiful life and raised four daughters. Bob was a devoted husband, father, and provider who worked hard throughout his life in road construction. He took great pride in helping build many of the highways Texans still travel today, including Highway 290 through Elgin and McDade and Interstate 35 through Austin.
After retiring in 1989, Bob and Clara made their home in Elgin, where they enjoyed family, friends, and the life they had worked so hard to build together.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Clara Webb; his parents, Emmit and Esther Webb; his brother, Felix Webb; his sisters, Aline Brust, Pauline Taylor, Eula Hetrick, Dollie Mae Williams and Dorothy Faison and husband Jim; his brother-in-law, Stan Johnson; his daughter, Ginger James; and his grandchildren, Christine Jones and Kevin Alexander.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathryn McGee, Jeanne Dube and husband Melvin, and Bobbe Alexander and husband Keith. He is also survived by his baby sister, Ada Johnson; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Bob considered his large family to be one of life’s greatest blessings. He loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. He especially enjoyed cruising with his daughter Kathy and his sister Ada — and often with many other family members along for the adventure. He loved celebrating his birthday aboard cruise ships and made lasting friendships with cruise directors, captains, crew members, and fellow passengers over the years.
Bob will be remembered for his hard work, his patriotism, his stories, his love of family, and the joy he found in life’s simple moments. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished so dearly.
Serving as pallbearer's will be grandson's; John Webb, Bryan Bracewell, Bradley Bracewell, Frank James, Jr., Mark McGee, Kenneth James, Ryan McGee, and great-grandson, Kase Jones.
