James “Jim” Anthony Haney passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025. James was born in San Antonio, Texas, on September 29, 1955 to Roe and Lillian Haney. He grew up in the care of South Texas Children’s Home in Pettus, Texas, where he had many fond memories. He graduated from Pettus High School before earning his Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice from Southwest Texas University in 1980. After college, James dedicated his career to serving others. First as a Police Officer in Floresville, Texas, and later as a Juvenile Probation Officer for Travis County where he retired.
While in Floresville, Texas, he met and married Theresa Haney (Tejada). Together they moved to their home in Elgin, Texas, where they lived for many happy years, and raised two wonderful children. James spent his final years enjoying retirement and cherishing his beloved granddaughters, who brought him immeasurable joy.
James Haney is survived by his wife of 43 years, Theresa Haney; his children, Ashley Grimes and Matthew Haney; his son-in-law William Grimes; his granddaughters, Caroline and Charlotte Grimes; as well as four siblings and many nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of life will be held in his honor.
