In Loving Memory of Michael Ray Hines
It is with great love and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Ray Hines, who departed this life peacefully on October 31, 2025, surrounded by his beautiful family in Elgin, Texas.
Michael was born on October 28, 1961, in San Antonio, Texas, to Angela Ybarra Hines and William David Hines. After high school, Mike joined the United States Air Force, proudly serving from 1982 to 1993, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-5). Mike had a distinguished military career which included deployments in both Operation Desert Storm and the Gulf War; and he served his country with honor and dedication.
Mike was stationed out of many locations, but in 1989, during their time at the Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, Mike met the love of his life, Holly Dodd. They were soon married in Las Vegas on May 12, 1989. Their military life included being stationed out of New Mexico and Spain until Mike exited the military and they settled in Elgin, Texas. Together, Mike and Holly built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and devotion, raising three wonderful children: Michael Ryan Hines, Colton Taylor Hines, and Blake Avyn Hines.
Mike will be remembered for his steadfast love for his family, his sense of humor, his unwavering patriotism, his generous heart, and his deep faith in God. He found joy in life’s simple moments—spending time with his family, watching Longhorn football, sharing stories from his Air Force days, listening to his children sing, and coaching his kids and others in softball and baseball at Elgin Little League. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and taking them on long walks to the park, driving their go-kart, or eating at their favorite spot in town, Lucy’s Kitchen. He also loved talking to people about Jesus wherever he was, sharing his faith, and encouraging others in their walk with God.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Holly Hines; his loving children, Michael Ryan Hines and wife Hayley, Colton Taylor Hines and wife Jessica, and Blake Avyn Hernandez and husband Henry; his cherished grandchildren: Hank Hernandez, Owen Hernandez, Dawson Hernandez, Walter Hernandez, Hardy Hines, Hannah Hines, and Harlen Hines; his siblings: Sandra Rosenbaum (Tim), Mark Espinoza (Freya), Roxanne Del La Cruz (Jaime), William R. Hines, and Cassie Flores (Sam); and numerous nieces and nephews who all love him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Angela Ybarra Hines and William David Hines, and his brother, Dorian Issac Hines.
Michael’s legacy of service, love, faith, and laughter will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, inspiring all who knew him to cherish family, honor service, and seek God’s love in everyday life.
A Celebration of Michael's Life will be held 11:00 Am Friday, November 7, 2025, First Baptist Church of Elgin, Texas.
